Painting New York City

~For my 'Green House Series', I've begun each piece by outlining and painting a bare urban cityscape. I then slowly layer and clutter the nature (plants/trees/leaves/flowers/grass) on top... as if it is revolting to reverse the process of industrialization or even evolution. In 1999 I moved to NY for school and got a part time gig assisting the photographer, Lyle Ashton Harris. I was 18, really naïve, not familiar with his work and had no idea of what I was getting into. Once again, I love Elizabeth Peyton & Museum roof tops. Likewise, I went to an absinthe only cocktail party and private viewing of “Live Forever: Elizabeth Peyton" at the New Museum last night. Ok, so I did some research on Eco-friendly art supplies. I'm going to use Gambin Artists' oil paints since they manufacture in "a wind-powered, energy efficient facility, focus on reducing the carbon footprint, while making safety a priority, for the artist and the environment."
