"Not Him" Means "Me"

Jack Layton persists in delusion. During a recent speaking engagement in BC, he called on voters to 'Stop Harper'. Since Stephane Dion is plummeting in the polls, 'Stop Harper' might be interpreted as 'Vote Layton'. At least that's what can be inferred. By making Harper the common enemy, he makes himself the alternative by default. He's betting hard on Liberal weakness.

There is one issue where Jack Layton is publicly supporting the Liberals, and that is in regards to the recent wave of anti Liberal vandalism. So far there have been 33 reported incidents of Liberal supporters being targeted by vandals. they have had their campaign signs defaced, their homes graffitied, and perhaps most disturbingly, some have had the phone lines and break lines cut. Police think that it maybe the work of one person - one very busy person who can be in multiple places aty once!

That doesn't explain the outbreak of election violence in Halifax. There campaign posters of openly gay Liberal incumbent candidate Scott Brison (Annapolis Valley) have been spray painted with the word "fag". Meanwhile both the Liberal and Conservative candidates in Halifax have been targeted. Both Liberal candidate Catherine Meade and her rival Tory candidate Ted Larsen have had the office windows in their campaign headquarters broken out with rocks. Though the NDP have been yet untouched by these tactics, Jack Layton has offered moral support to the targeted candidates: "Anybody who attacks the basic right of people to get involved in politics is attacking something that is very fundamental to all us, which is the right to vote. ... It is absolutely unacceptable and quite horrific to imagine such a thing is going on," Layton commented during a recent Thunder Bay campaign spot. It appears that the party is getting rough!
