JJ Abrams Digs Into Kylo Ren's Mindset in 'The Force Awakens'
He says the dark acolyte almost made some very different decisions!
Go back to the first time you watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens and remember the anticipation and impending doom you felt watching Han Solo and Kylo Ren meet on that narrow rail-less bridge. In hindsight it all feels like Kylo Ren set the whole thing up to [SPOILER!] murder his dad, but now JJ Abrams says the scene was written with a little more ambiguity than that.
In the new 3D Collector's edition of the movie, the director reveals Adam Driver's character was conflicted during the scene. "Kylo Ren in this moment is actually being convinced to walk away from this," Abrams says, according to USA Today. During the scene Kylo is sort of looking for a reason to walk another path, but "Deep down, he's gone too far."
He also speaks to the scene's visual allusions to the first two Star Wars movies. "Obviously any time two characters in Star Wars go out on an incredibly thin bridge 10 miles above the ground with no railings, it's not going to end well with one of them."
So what's next for Kylo Ren? We'll have to wait more than a year to find out. Episode VIII is due out December 15, 2017.
