As the Southern California blaze rages on, homes are lost, wildlife is devastated, and communities are struggling to recover. In the more well-to-do areas where homes are often owned by wealthy celebrities, communities are seeing an influx of donations. This generosity is exemplified by Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, who donated $500,000 to aid community relief via Cyrus' Happy Hippie Foundation. Established in 2014, the Happy Hippie Foundation is Cyrus' nonprofit, which she created to help homeless LGBT+ youth and similar marginalized communities in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

According to a statement, the sizable donation will go toward "those in financial need, emergency relief assistance, community rebuilding, wildfire prevention and climate change resilience."

Hemsworth and Cyrus have shared images of the devastation and its rare silver linings on social media. Cyrus is known for her love of animals — including a large pig that lives in the house with her — and was quick to share that her fiancé and their pets evacuated before the fire hit.

"Completely [devastated] by the fires affecting my community," she tweeted on November 12. "I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now."

Cyrus then added links to organizations such as the Red Cross and wildlife protection services.

Hemsworth shared a Pulitzer-worthy photo of the rubble on Twitter. Alongside a photo of their wrecked home, the actor wrote the following:

"It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what’s left of my house. Love," he said. "Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires."

Like Cyrus, he suggested anyone influenced by the fires contact The Malibu Project and the Happy Hippie Foundation. Later, on November 13, the actor added:

"I spent the day in Malibu yesterday and it was amazing to see the community pulling together to help each other out in any way they can. Malibu is a strong community and this event is only going to make it stronger. It’s going to be a journey to rebuild. Stay strong all."

Cyrus and Hemsworth are just two of the many A-listers in the area looking for ways to combat the damage. It's been reported that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West contracted private firefighters to assist their community, and CNN announced that Oscar winner Sandra Bullock donated $100,000 to The Humane Society of Ventura County. As terrible as it is to see the homes damaged by the fire, it's also difficult to process the ecosystems disrupted and species displaced by the fires.

There are currently multiple wildfires moving through Southern California, but Northern California is experiencing the same — with fewer celebrity neighbors to financially reinvest in their communities.

It's amazing to see famous people support causes in their areas. Good for Miley and Liam, and let's hope that more stars follow their generous lead.
